Waylon Phillips Tops Kyle Busch at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (10/03/24) – Waylon Phillips’ breakout season continued this past weekend as the Blue Springs, Missouri racer racked up three more wins at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex aboard his Taff’s Carpets/ Race Star Wheels/ Motor Haven No. 67JR Hyper Racing Micro.
The 14-year-old youngster capped off the stellar showing with a Non-Wing Outlaw triumph on Saturday night over two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Busch to record his 12th overall victory of the 2024 campaign.
“Man, what an awesome weekend,” Phillips said in post-race Victory Lane. “Being able to race against Brexton and Kyle is pretty awesome, but picking up the win over Kyle will be something I will always remember. Big thanks to my family and all of my sponsors who support me.”
Waylon Phillips’ doubleheader weekend at Sweet Springs (MO) Motorsports Complex kicked off on Friday as he was pulling double duty for the Chase and Rodney Gibson Memorial.
After turning in positive runs in both heat races, Phillips soared to his 10th win of the season in the Non-Wing Outlaw A-Main. In his Stock Micro, Waylon turned in a runner-up finish in the main event, chasing Quinton Benson to the checkers.
On Saturday, Waylon stormed into the Non-Wing Outlaw main event with a convincing win in his heat race. Lined up on the front row alongside Kyle Busch, Phillips rocketed into the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, charging to the 20-lap victory over the two-time NASCAR champ.
Phillips added his third win of the weekend in the Stock Micro ranks on Saturday night with a flag-to-flag showing in the main event.
The commanding victory marked his 12th of the season.

Phillips will sit idle this weekend while the team prepares for the Show-Me Showdown at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex. Preliminaries scheduled for next Thursday and Friday set the stage for Saturday night’s features.
